📚💛 Kindness. Respect. And stories worth sharing.
Stan Tucker spent time in our classrooms on Friday reminding our students that how we treat people matters...and encouraging them to lead with kindness and respect wherever they go.
And, of course, he challenged them to pick up a pencil and write their stories! ✏️📖 Who knows? The next book published through Share Your Story might just be written by another Hendrix student sitting in one of those classrooms today!
Your story matters. Write it. Share it. 💛

📚✨ What a sweet, unforgettable day at Hendrix!
Yesterday, Stan Tucker joined us for a very special moment...the cover reveal for books written by our very own young authors through his Share Your Story program! 💛
Watching our students see the covers of THEIR books for the very first time was pure magic. 🥹📖 Their stories, their words, their names on the cover!
We absolutely cannot wait to hold the published books in our hands and celebrate these incredible young authors all over again.
Their stories matter...and soon, the world gets to read them. 💙💛

Our very own Hendrix Elementary School Teacher of the Year Alex Hurwitz was honored at last night's Hub City Spartanburgers game! #D2DifferenceMaker Despite the spotlight being on her, Ms. Hurwitz, being the amazing educator she is, was quick to turn the attention to her fellow teammates at HES.
"I am so lucky to work with such an amazing group of people at Hendrix Elementary School and District 2," she said. "Being honored as the Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Game has meant so much to me and to my coworkers that have supported me and helped me be the best I can be for my students everyday."
It is no surprise that a large group of HES Teachers and Students came out to support Ms. Hurwitz at this special event.
"It is one of the most amazing places I have ever been," Hurwitz said about her school. "The way that we love our students and show up for each other and having the support of my coworkers and principal has meant a lot." #D2isFamily

💙💛 Talk about a full-circle moment!
A former HES first grader returned to Hendrix this week as a substitute teacher—and found herself teaching right across the hall from her very own first-grade teacher! 🥹
From sitting in a little desk to standing in front of the classroom, moments like this remind us that the seeds teachers plant can keep growing long after students leave their classrooms.
Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat. 💙🐾💛

✏️📚 Writers’ Workshop is in full swing in Mrs. Bishop’s class!
First grade authors kicked off the year by writing about something very important… themselves! Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ Our Treasures Within, students reflected on the people, places, experiences, and interests that make them unique.
Today, these authors had the opportunity to share their writing with a partner, sharing their stories and listening to the treasures within one another.

💡 Change inspires innovation.
Our 5th graders put this central idea into action this week! Students took on a communication challenge and had to collaborate, think creatively, problem-solve, and design a way to get their message across. They then connected their experience to the ways communication has changed over time. They began to see how a problem, need, or change can inspire people to discover new possibilities, design solutions, and innovate. This is what learning in an IB World School looks like—students aren't simply given an idea to memorize. They inquire, experience, question, collaborate, make connections, and construct meaning for themselves. And that's the difference. 💙🌎

🐞 A Little Recess Luck! 🍀
Sometimes the best learning moments happen when we least expect them! During recess today, one of our students discovered a tiny ladybug, and immediately shared the special find with others. 🐞❤️ Ladybugs are considered symbols of good luck in many cultures around the world. What a perfect little reminder that the world is full of things worth noticing, wondering about, and sharing! Our IB Learner Profile Attribute of the Month is Communicator, and this little moment was a beautiful example of what it means to be a communicator: noticing, connecting, and sharing ideas and discoveries with others. At Hendrix, we know that learning doesn’t always happen inside four walls. Sometimes, it happens right there on the playground… with a little ladybug in the palm of your hand. 🌎🐞
